UCSD CEQA Process

The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) is a California state law that applies to all discretionary actions.

There are several paths to ensure compliance with CEQA, each with approximate timeframes:

  • Categorical Exemptions (approximately 2 weeks)

  • Mitigated Negative Declarations (approximately 6 months)

  • Environmental Impact Reports (approximately 1 year)

It is the responsibility of the UCSD Environmental Planners to determine the appropriate path for University project proposals that require discretionary action.
